Buildings with seismic risk in Bucharest represent an old problem on the public agenda of the capital for years.

It seems that in Bucharest in the past 27 years the local authorities have rehabilitated only 20 buildings due to the insufficient number of specialists (only 8 people) from the mayor's office dealing with this problem.

To solve this problem, the City Hall set up in 2017 two entities, with 263 employees, carrying out actions dedicated to this area.

"In less than a year, consolidation procedures have been launched for 23 buildings, many of which are a historic monument.

Also in the spring, we will start another program to secure another 100 buildings in various stages of degradation "declared in March 2018 Gabriela Firea, mayor of Bucharest.

The companies set up are the Municipal Administration for Building Seismic Risk Consolidation (AMCCRS), which has 46 employees, and the Municipal Consolidation Company (CMC), which has already 217 employees. The budget allocated for the current year to strengthen buildings with seismic risk is about 10 million euros.

"These funds will be used to continue the work on the buildings under construction, for the work on 29 other buildings that will be executed in the next period, but also for the technical projects for 29 other buildings and the expertise of other 24", explains the City Hall of the Capital .

At the moment those buildings are in work: the buildings from Blanari street. No. 2, No. 6, No. 8 and No.10 - in execution; a building in Franceza street No. 30, a building in Biserica Enei street No. 14 and one in Spatarului street. As well as the building from Stirbei Voda street No. 20 where here the safety works have already been completed and a consolidation started. In the case of 15 other buildings, the first step of the consolidation process was started, specifically the safeness process.

According to a study carried out by the Association of the Romanian Center for Innovation in Local Development in partnership with MKBT: Make Better (http://mkbt.ro/) and the Romanian Health Observatory, seismic risk reports were conducted between 1992 and 2001 In the ' 90 were subjected to seismic expertise, with priority, (1) reinforced concrete dwellings built before 1941 and (2) buildings with more than 3 floors, constructed before 1978 and which had public spaces on the ground floor or other levels of the building in a step-by-step process at the request of the municipality. After 2000, the expertise was left to the owners latitude without the municipality requesting and therefore the number of buildings surveyed after 2000 and classified in the seismic risk class fell considerably (to a few dozen in the last 20 years) .
